The weather isn't nice the last days, so we went and visited some old churches. The churches around Hooksiel are very old, the oldes is from the 9. century. It is the church of a village called Hohenkichen (Highchurch)

Interior under the cut.

Organ from 1694

Pulpit from around 1690

And the oldest piece, the baptismal font from 1260-1265

After that we went to the church in Waddewarden, St. Johannes. It's a church from 1264

Inetrior under the cut again

The last church we visited in the last three days is in Pakens, a very small village with only three houses, but with a very large church which was build somewhere between 1250 and 1300.

That was my church post. Yesterday we went to Jever and visited the castle museum. But that will be another post, because I made so many photos, that would be to much for this post.

Fascinating! What a beautiful church interior!

I would love to explore all the historic churches Europe has to offer. ...So much history in them!

We were fascinated too because we didn't know about these churches. There are 14 around here and all a very old. The walls are up to one and a half meter and they are so big. They were retreat for attacks and storm tides, so they needed much space inside.

They made a pilgrimsway here where you can explore all 14 churches and there's a card and you can get a stamp in every church.

Thanks for looking. :-)

The wheather looks nice enough for me.

But anyway, the churches are worth a visit!
Beautiful in their unsophisticatedness, but with some extraordinary pulpits and organs. :-)

I know, the weather looks fine at the photos, but you have sun and rain and sun and rain and storm all in five minutes. You can close the umbrella as soon as you've opened it because the rainshower sometimes only lasts thirty seconds. *g* It's like the weather in April.

You can see that the churches are not Catholic but Protestant and for this sort of church the pulpits are outstanding.

Thank you for looking.

I love visiting old churches, but few have been as ornate as these, especially the one in Waddewarden. Simply gorgeous.

I love old churches and these look an intriguing mix of modern (on the outside) and much older within - it's incredible to think they're from the thirteenth century! Thanks so much for all your posts.

Oh, you don't see much of these churches in Germany anymore. They look very old when you compare them with the normal churches in Germany.

And you're very welcome and I hope it wasn't to much with all my posts. But I found so much nice things to show this holiday.
