Last week I went to a small village named Neuharlingersiel. It is really small, but it has a stille active fishing port. There are shrimp boats that go out every day early in the morning. This is my favorite one.

It always returnes at noon and has fresh shrimps.

Normally they had nine boxes filled with shrimps.

One day I went on a trip on a paddle steamer which goes from the neighbour harbor to museum harbor nearby.

On my way back to the rented house I heard some geese and I thought it might be three or four or maybe even ten. And then I saw it. There must have been ten or twenty thousand  Barnacle Geese.

And there were some young hares....

and raven

I found nice flowers

daisies

dandelion

pansies

And on my last day there was a swarm of arctic terns. I think that could have been more then two hundred thousand, because the sky was black when they landed.

I never saw so much geese or terns at one place before. It was fascinating. When the terns fly it looks as if they were dancing in the sky.

The week was truly wonderfull, even though it was cold and very, very windy. But it was dry and some times there was sun.

What a lovely place to visit! I especially loved the pictures of the wildlife. So many birds in one place. That really must have been something to see.

Was there a reason for such a small catch? And is it becoming a problem there?

Wow. What a nice place to visit--beautiful, even in the cold and wind. The birds are amazing! I suppose the huge numbers have to do with spring migrations? But all the photos are wonderful. Hares! We don't have hares around here, just smaller rabbits. Whoa, and the hover feature says the roundish flowers are daisies! Very, very different from our daisy. Wow. Thank you so much for sharing these with us. I'm glad you had a wonderful trip.

What fab piccies - thank you! It looks like a wonderful place to visit too - far more my sort of holiday than a hot beach *shudder* Amazing to see so many birds like that - I've never seen massive flocks of terns - I had no idea they did that! And the paddle steamer! Isn't it cute?!

Thank you again - I love to see what other people see!

Thank you! Yes, the shrimp boat was special and arctic terns were amazing. When they fly it looks like a dance or a great wave in the air and on first sight the sky was black and I thought it was burning somewhere.

Thank you!

Yes, I think it is on their way to Norway and Iceland and they had to rest because it was too stormy to fly over the sea. They made several try, but it didn't work.

And I like you icon!bunny! :-)

Oh yes, it is a lovely place for a short trip. The number of birds really was amazing. I was almost an hour on the dike after seeing the first arctic tern.

And no, it wasn't a small catch. I told it wrong. The fishermen work in an cooperative and they have two different colored boxes. White for the cooperative and blue, from which they can sell directly. And the most time they have nine white boxes and one blue. This time the had only six white boxes and the blue one.

I don't think it will become a problem there. Maybe it was only a bad day because the water wasn't still enough and I don't know how long they where catching shrimps.

Thank you, I'm glad you like them. :-)

Yes, it is really a nice place to visit and it isn't tos far away from my home. I think you are right and it had to do with the spring migrations of the birds. I've read in the internet that they are at home in Norway and Iceland. And I think it is on their to the breed sites.

We also don't have hares in my hometown, so it was a very new experience for me to see them.

Yes, the roundish flowers are a sort of daisies, but it is no wildform, it is a breed form.

You're very welcome!

Yes, outside of the school holiday time it is very peaceful and relaxing. But I must admit, I don't want to be there in the time from May to September. Because I think then it is crowdy and noisy. And I also don't like the hot beaches, I love it to walk in my holidays and to see as much as possible.

I never saw so much birds at one place, but read about this massive flocks of terns and I saw them in TV. But it is different when you see it in nature.

And the paddle steamer really works with the paddles. I know some boats where the paddles are fake, but not this one. It was part of the ship museum.

Thank you for looking and liking!

I saw these lovely photos, yesterday and didn't get to comment until now. I'm still in catch-up mode, but I'm getting there, slowly. *g*

What a lovely seaside village. I'm guessing those houses are built strong, to withstand the North Sea storms.

I like the variety of subjects you've captured here. So many birds! Ooh and the shot of those little, round, white/pink flower is gorgeous.

Thank you for sharing your pics with us.

Thank you very much. I'm glad you like them.

Yes, the houses are very old and they are built strong, because they keep the rest of the village safe. Between the last two houeses in this semicircle is the flood gate and when it is closed, the houses behind them are safe.
