Today was the day one of my very good friends had to move his shop because the landlord wanted more than 80% more rent. So what did we do? We were two women and two men (one only for driving one of the cars because he is nearly 80 years old.) And we had to move more than 30 moving boxes full with stuff from his shop. Some were very light because they contained only pillows and mobile phone covers. But some were very heavy because they contained books and coal and such things.

And I felt like Bodie and Doyle in "In The Public Interest".

And even though I took a hot bath, I think tomorrow everything will hurt.

Oh my! What a job to have to do. It's a shame you couldn't get The Lads to help. *bg*
Damn landlords upping rents. It's happened here too where a lovely little street of cafes were doing great business, so landlords increased rents, which meant loss of money for tenants, so they all ended up losing down. Greedy landlords got nothing then. *snigger*

Hard work, from a true friend - good for you, and I hope you managed to get it all done successfully. Hope it doesn't hurt, though!

Well done, you for helping your friend, and grrr for greedy landlords. It's happened here too, and whole streets and even high streets are full of boarded-up shops, because no one can afford such high rent... (big supermarkets moving in everywere haven't helped, mind you...) Good luck to your friend, too!

I hope you don't ache too much tomorrow - what a good idea to think of the lads while you were doing it! Next I have to move house, I shall try and remember to do the same... *g*

Golly, that was hard work. I'm glad you managed to get it all done. But yes, I fear you are going to hurt tomorrow - hopefully not too badly.

Really good to help your friend and I hope he manages to find somewhere much cheaper. High rents seem to be a blight on many cities worldwide, plus online shopping doesn't help struggling shopkeepers. (And I've just remembered that Jeremy Corbyn mentioned something yesterday about using empty shops for more useful purposes, one of his better ideas!)

Lovely pictures, thank you!

I didn't have epsom salts, so I used seasalt and it worked wonders. My back doesn't hurt anymore and I can lift my arms again. *g* Thanks for the idea.

Well, someone had to do it. And he told me he's finished unpacking in his cellar today, so everything is fine now.

You know, sometimes I wonder if the landlords don't think at all. I mean it is better to have a tenant who pays less but rents the shop year after year, than to increase the rent and have no tenant after a year. So crazy. And sad for the people who want to sit in small cafes or buy their presents in little shops.

That's what friends are for, isn't it? He unpacked everything today and now there is only the scrap metal and some things he'll give away for a good purpose.

It doesn't hurt so much, but my arms are hurting. But it's okay, other people have to spend money to build up their muscles. *g*

Thank you. I think helping a friend is a thing you should do without thinking about it. And it is good that the landlord gets a kick in his arse, even if it is only symbolic. I'm sure he wont find another person who'll rent this little shop for this money.

My arms hurt but it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The hot bath helped a lot.

Yes, that it was. And we are glad too. And I think I'm lucky, I don't hurt so much. My arms are aching, but that's all. I thing the hot bath worked wonders.

Thank you. At the moment he put everything into his cellar. Maybe he'll set up an online shop too because it would be much, much cheaper for him to do so. But I think he would miss to sit in the shop, chatting with customers and having his friends visiting. Time will show.

You're welcome, I'm glad you like them. :-)

Hope you're not hurting too much. It was really sweet of you to help.

The rent thing is crazy. Just had a local restarunt that had been here for 20 years close because they couldn't come to terms on a new lease. And I just know that place is going to sit empty like so many others. It's really depressing.

Your pictures, however, are lovely. Really love Doyle's smile in the second one.

Thank you. My muscles ached for three days, but after that all was fine again.

Yes, it's a crazy world with the rents. I'm sure the landlord won't find another lodger because the location isn't so good and there aren't so much people crossing the place.

Thanks for liking the pictures.
