A is for And Make Him a Bridge of Gold by Josey (cestus)


I'm a bit ambivalent about this story. I like that it is a pre-series story, but there are some aspects I have problems with.

We start with our lads in the car (maybe on a stakeout) and it sounds as if they know each other for a long time. So it comes as a surprise when you read that Cowley is in Doyle's living room, waiting for his agent and wants to know if Doyle could imagine being permanently partnered with the new member of the squad, Bodie because last Monday Doyle's reaction wasn't what Cowley expected it to be. But the reason is nice.

"I didn't get the impression you were too pleased on Monday."

On Monday, Doyle had taken one look at the newly seconded William Bodie and had immediately retreated behind the desk since neither CI5 nor his jeans were up to dealing with his reaction. But he couldn't exactly say that to the old man.

That's one of the scenes I like very much. But I admit I have a slight problem with Doyle's reaction when it comes to the point where they think about having sex and he chickens out. That's so not what I think he would do. Ok, very often he is described as the more reasonable of the two, but I'm not convinced that he would think so complicated and clear in that situation.

But all in all, I recommend this story because it is a nice read for a grey afternoon.

I'm not sure why but I don't think I've read many of Josey's stories.

Me neither. And I don't know how many stories are on CA or AO3, maybe we should go searching.
