Discovered in an Easter Egg

I know we didn't have a challenge over atHow the Easter egg became a Gem
a little picture idea by Macklingirl
Doyle promised Bodie some Cadbury Creme Eggs if he would spend the Easter weekend with him in Walton-on-Thames. And since Bodie loves his Cadbury Creme Eggs he said okay.
They were lucky, the weather was good when they arrived in Walton-on-Thames. Bodie was already looking for the pub, while Doyle sat behind him on his motorbike. "Stopp there, on the green", Doyle called and like the good friend and lover Bodie was he stopped.

"Have you seen this house on the other side? That's it, that's your Easter Egg", Doyle beamed. They got off the bike and Bodie turned around.
"That on? That's a ruin, Ray."
"I know, but take look inside and you will see its potential. Please, Bodie."
They walked through the empty space where the door should have been and took a look. There was a bar that was pushed into the corner and there were chairs and stools lying around. It looked as if the old owners had left in a hurry. There weren't any floorboards on the ground, only some old and ugly wood.

"Oh Ray, that would be a lot of work to make this into something decent again", Bodie said.
"Yes, I know. But it will be worth it. I know the owner of the house, it's the father of my cousin's best friend. And he wants to get rid of it, one way or the other. And I really would like to try."
"Okay, love. Let's speak with him. If it doesn't cost too much we can try it."
They had a successful chat with the owner and after two-and-a-half-hour they were the fresh owner of the old pub from Walton-on-Thames. And the other day they started working.
They replaced the door and the steps and Bodie laid the new wood floor

while Doyle painted the outer wall

And they gave the house a new name (but it is only one piece of the whole name)

To be continued sometime around Christmas.
I hope you like my little silliness and Easter story which will find its end sometime around Christmas this year.

I had a lot of help from my father who loves to build the lad's little rooms with me. *g* It is like meditation when you create the items you want to use in the room.

I know we didn't have a challenge over at
Well I wish you'd let me know, you would have been welcome to host an Easter challenge at the comm! I invited people to host challenges ages ago, but no one took me up on it. Every now and then I think I'll try posting a challenge again myself, but there's so few people around these days, and the Big Bang seems to take up the energy of most writers for most of the year. It's quite discouraging when there's not much response, so I end up not doing it. But as I've said before, just let me know if you want to host one, and we can get it set up.
PS - this also sounds a bit as if you were expecting an Easter challenge at Dialj, but we don't usually have one, so I'm a bit confused!? Did I miss a conversation somewhere?

Date: 2023-04-09 04:15 pm (UTC)Sorry, I think that came out wrong. I didn't mean to complain that there was no challenge and I wasn't expecting one. I was planning to contact you and ask if I could do an Easter challenge. But real life got in the way with two operations in the family (father and sister). And before I knew it, it was the end of March and it was clear that no one would be able to join at such short notice. So no, you didn't miss any conversation about a challenge.
Thank you for liking this little piece of fun. I don't think they will retire, but having their own pub/bar/café might be something nice for them to have to go to on their weekends?

Date: 2023-04-09 05:11 pm (UTC)Ah, it's going to be a weekend getaway pub for them! *vbg* I shall look forward to find out what they get up to there. *g* I had the lads retire to run a pub in my Two go... story series (although I've only written two of the series so far, I need to get going and write the next ones - they're based on Enid Blyton's Famous Five stories, so I have lots to catch up on!) I reckon a pub would be a good challenge for them though- I can't see them retiring quietly on their pensions somehow, they'd need a challenge or two still. *g*
